The SOURCE celebrates a successful first tax season as a lead VITA site

The SOURCE had a very successful first year as an independent lead Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) site, after nearly 20 years of operating in partnership with other lead sites to provide free tax filing assistance. For the 2024 tax season, we helped prepare 988 tax returns, with just over 40% of returns prepared for employees of partner companies and the remaining 60% of returns prepared for other members of the West Michigan community.

We are honored to be able to provide this critical service to employees of our employer partners and the broader community. With the closure of several VITA sites in 2024, we recognized the need to step in and fill this gap for the community and are grateful to The Community Economic Development Association of Michigan (CEDAM) for their support in providing The SOURCE with a grant to support us in becoming an independent lead site. We would like to extend a huge thank you to the 26 volunteers who gave their time to offer tax preparation assistance—they helped access over $1.9 million in tax refunds!
