The SOURCE, a nonprofit organization with over 22 years of experience providing workforce stabilization and high-quality resource navigation services, is expanding to Southeast Michigan. The Detroit Regional Workforce Partnership (DRWP) has committed to support The SOURCE as the organization launches its services in the region and Corewell Health will serve as The SOURCE’s anchor partner. The SOURCE’s expansion was made possible, in part, by a grant from the Michigan Department of Labor and Economic Opportunity.

The SOURCE brings together the people, systems and support required to stabilize households and reduce employment turnover through a unique model where employers invest to bring The SOURCE’s high-quality resource navigation services to their employees.

“The SOURCE was founded in 2003 by a group of employers who recognized they needed to do more to support their employees, and in doing so, they would stabilize their workforce and reduce turnover,” said Alison Freas, President and CEO of The SOURCE. “Our team bridges the gap that often exists between human resources departments that are constrained in the ways they can support employees and the employees themselves, who need very specific and personal support to overcome a wide range of challenges. At the same time, we provide tangible value to our employer partners, who experience reduced turnover and increased engagement among employees who leverage SOURCE services. We are excited to extend our impact to Southeast Michigan in partnership with the Detroit Regional Workforce Partnership and Corewell Health.”

The SOURCE’s team of experts ensure those they serve are maximizing their employer-sponsored benefits and, when necessary, help individuals navigate the complex web of community and government programs that exist to support vulnerable populations.

SOURCE clients are working families, typically lower-wage earners, who seek out SOURCE services for a variety of reasons, including housing/eviction prevention, transportation assistance, free tax preparation, overcoming food insecurity, physical and mental health needs and financial well-being. Employer-partners also turn to the SOURCE to help them create customized programming to meet their needs, including financial education and coaching, vehicle purchase and home ownership programs.

“We are thrilled to support The SOURCE in their expansion to Southeast Michigan,” said Jayme Powell, DRWP Executive Director. “I am confident their presence in the region will further strengthen our talent ecosystem and help create a community where everyone thrives.”

As the anchor partner, Corewell Health has made a multi-year commitment to support The SOURCE in Southeast Michigan, including assisting The SOURCE in securing additional capital funding and recruiting employers to the network. “At Corewell Health, we care about our team members and the communities we serve. We recognize the need to provide resources that address the many challenges our employees face while at work and in their personal lives. Partnerships with organizations like The SOURCE are critical to realizing our mission of improving health, instilling humanity and inspiring hope for our team members and those entrusted in our care,” said Eric Bacigal, Vice-President of Well-Being at Corewell Health. “It is a longstanding goal of ours to provide our employees across the state with support similar to what The SOURCE offers. We are proud to serve as the anchor employer for their expansion into Southeast Michigan.”

The SOURCE will begin recruiting to hire a regional team this winter and expects to begin serving clients in Southeast Michigan in early 2026. Employers interested in joining The SOURCE’s network should email info@grsource.org.
