Last month we hosted a job fair for young people involved with AYA Youth Collective as part of our ongoing partnership to provide workforce development and resource navigation services to the AYA community. This initiative is made possible by generous support from the Steelcase Foundation.
Young people participating in our employment cohort were able to meet with potential employers, interview on-site for available positions, and speak to banking partners who were on-site to assist with financial services. Twenty-four young people participated in the job fair and three received offers of employment!
“This was the first job fair that many of the young people had ever attended, and a lot of care and intention went into the planning to ensure was a really welcoming and safe event to be part of,” said Lourdes Jordan, SOURCE Program Manager. “We are especially grateful for the employers and community partners that stepped up to provide opportunities. Watching the youth interacting with these organizations, interviewing on the spot, and generally being excited and showing up confidently was so rewarding. We know that this was a valuable experience in their workforce journey.”
Our next job fair is scheduled for October 9 and we are actively seeking employers to participate. Please contact Lourdes at The SOURCE at 616-452-5295 for more information.
